M Family Moments – September 2023

In a world filled with the hustle and bustle of everyday life, sometimes it takes a special event to remind us of the beauty and fragility of the present moment. The 7th Annual Superhero Race Against Cancer, held recently, did just that. It was a weekend filled with stories of strength, camaraderie, and hope—a reminder that each day is a gift we should treasure.

A Magical Start: Disney Magic for Ovarian Cancer Warriors The weekend kicked off in true Disney style by hosting three incredible ovarian cancer superheroes and their families for a VIP trip to the Magical World of Disney. These brave women, who have faced the
unimaginable challenges of ovarian cancer, came together to share their experiences and create lasting memories. Just a short year ago, they were uncertain if they would be here today, making their moments at Disney even more precious.

This weekend is all about cherishing the present, recognizing that life is unpredictable, and celebrating the strength that resides within us.

Racing for a Cause:
The Superhero Race Against Cancer On Saturday, Celebration Lakeside Park was humming with excitement as over 300 runners, walkers, joggers, and rollers gathered for the 7th Annual Superhero Race Against Cancer. As the sun painted the sky with hues of orange and pink, the Celebration High School Band, led by the talented Tyler Kirby, stirred our hearts with the National Anthem.

Founder Kelly McCarthy’s words of inspiration and gratitude set the stage for a day filled with hope. However, the highlight of the event was the presence of Trippy Nugent, a young hero fighting DIPG (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma), who led the race on his bike with his dad, Nick Nugent, as his sidekick. The Nugent Family, including mom Katie and sister Lexie, exemplify unwavering strength and
resilience in the face of adversity. Their courage and spirit remind us of the importance of support, love, and prayers in these challenging times. To learn more about their incredible journey, follow “Team Trippy” on Facebook.

The racecourse meandered through the tree-canopied streets of Celebration, and participants were met with cheers, ringing bells, and uplifting posters from volunteers and neighbors who had come out to show their support. Each stride, each step, was a symbol of unity and determination, a testament to the power of community in the face of cancer.

As runners crossed the finish line, the sense of accomplishment was palpable, and they were rewarded with medals and a hearty breakfast, generously sponsored by Celebration Town Tavern. But more than that, they were rewarded with the knowledge that they were part of something bigger—a community bound by a shared journey through the challenges of ovarian and pediatric cancers.

The day concluded with participants and their families coming together, connecting over their unspoken bond of resilience and hope. It was a beautiful reminder that these moments of togetherness are made possible by the incredible support of sponsors like Celebration Health & Wellness, Celebration Pediatrics, Celebration OBGYN, Celebration Town Tavern, iRemedy, Smart City, CROA, TORSN Massage
& Body Treatment, Orange Theory of Celebration, Cruise Planners, DVC Advantages and Graphic Creations.

In the end, the 7th Annual Superhero Race Against Cancer wasn’t just a race; it was a celebration of life, love, and hope. While we remember our loved ones who are no longer with us, we also come together to support one another, raise awareness, and fight for families who continue to battle this relentless disease. It reminded us that together, we can overcome even the most formidable challenges, and that every moment we have is a gift worth treasuring
